Our family groomer who had taken care of our now 6 yo female Shih Tzu since she was a puppy, had the desire to become a nurse, so we were looking for a new groomer for our baby girl. We were nervous about how well our pup would do with a new groomer, but all went very well. Noel was great! She texted me throughout letting me know how our pup was doing, and Maddie looked red carpet ready when she came out. Will definitely use Poochies again, and definitely Noel!

New builds off Austin Ranch, families who moved in last spring, and a bark park at Five Star that’s basically a puppy convention on Saturdays. Which means a lot of our 75056 appointments are somebody’s first time doing this at all. We handle those deliberately: bath, blow-dry, nails, ears and a light tidy rather than a full haircut, and we stop while the puppy is still comfortable instead of pushing through for a perfect finish. A puppy who has one bad first groom carries it for years, and there’s no haircut worth that. Come back in four to six weeks and the second one goes further, because by then the van is a familiar place.

Once fully vaccinated, usually around 12 to 16 weeks, and ideally before the coat truly needs it. The first visit teaches the puppy that this is a normal thing that happens, which is worth more than the haircut.

Ten minutes twice a week beats an hour once a month. Slicker brush plus a metal comb, brushing to the skin rather than over the top of the coat. Your groomer will point out the spots that tangle first on your particular dog.
